  • Cadets meet Congresswoman

     U.S. Naval Sea Cadets Petty Officer First Class Ariana Pusey and Seaman Kimberly Vickers, of Manatee Division, attended Academy Day at MacDill Air Force Base. Congresswoman Kathy Castor, U.S. Representative from the 11th District of Florida, provided an opportunity for interested high school students to learn about various military academies and ROTC programs.

  • Thanksgiving ... with the Log Cabin Quilters

    Levy County Quilt Museum Executive Director, Winnelle Horne, welcomes Elsie Odom of Chiefland and Wilda Pawlak of Fanning Springs to the 28th Annual Thanksgiving dinner at the Quilt Museum.  The members of the Log Cabin Quilters prepared turkeys and guests brought a banquet of sumptuous covered dishes and desserts to share with the 52 guests who came in fellowship and to give thanks.  Some of the luncheon guests had traveled from Wisconsin, Maine, and Virginia.

  • Chiefland Christmas Festival Dec. 3

    Chiefland Christmas Festival & Parade
    The 2011 Chiefland Christmas Festival & Parade will be Saturday Dec. 3, in downtown Chiefland at the historic train depot, Trailhead Park and the surrounding area on U.S. Highway 19 South.
    The Festival will begin at 10 a.m. with arts and crafts, music and song and activities for children.
    The lighted parade theme “Winter Wonderland” starts at 6 p.m. followed by the evening celebration
    that includes the lighting ceremony, caroling and visits with Santa.

  • Levy jobless rate dips to 10.3

       The news on Levy County's job front is good for the month of October as the unemployment rate dipped from 11 percent to 10.3 percent and the county ranked 29th among the state's 67 counties in unemployment. It was in 25th place in September.
