  • Only one new face on business boards

        The same faces will be sitting on the Nature Coast Business Development Council and the Levy County Enterprise Zone Development Agency when the boards resume meeting.
        The Levy County Commission reappointed four directors of the business council and six members of the EZDA.
        The County Commission provides the NCBDC and EZDA with $42,000 to fund their operations and about $250 per month in office rent.

  • Mud bog suspect stays in jail

    Chris Sutherlin Jr., charged with 2nd degree felony manslaughter in the death of Roderic Sparks of Crystal River, lost his bid to be put on home detention Friday in a courtroom packed with Sparks' family and friends.
    Levy County Judge James T. Browning denied the request made by the 15-year-old New Port Richey boy's attorney, Allan H. Kaye of Gainesville.  

  • Cross City correctional officer jailed

     James Leslie Cassidy, a Cross City corrections officer for 24 years, drank moonshine and what followed afterward could cost his career.
    Cassidy, 43, is  charged with groping two women against their will, slashing tires on six vehicles, and while going to jail cursing and threatening to "cut ... gut ... stab" a Levy County Sheriff's deputy and kill his family, according to sheriff's arrest reports.

  • Road and Lane Closures for June 11 - 17

    The following is a list of roadwork underway by the FDOT that may impact traffic.

    Interstate 75  Daytime lane closures just south of Newberry Road (State Road 26/Exit 387) from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to allow crews to widen the northbound exit ramp onto Newberry Road. Traffic is shifted to the west just south of the interchange because of the addition of a barrier wall on the east side of the project.

  • Multiple fires break out in Cedar Key area

    It took crews from three local fire departments and the Florida Division of Forestry to contain a 10-acre brush fire in the Fowler’s Bluff area Monday night.

  • Prescription drugs found on woman driving moped

     A Trenton woman was arrested near a Fanning Springs bar May 24 for driving with a suspended license, no vehicle registration and possession of narcotics without a prescription.
