  • End of summer bash helps get ready for school

  • County dashes water on fire workshop

    The Chiefland and Cedar Key commissions' suggestions that the Levy County Commission hold a public workshop on fire operations is unanimously tabled until those officials first talk with County Fire Chief David Knowles. 

    “Allow him the opportunity to sit down with you,” Commissioner Marsha Drew of Yankeetown (R-District 3) told Norm Fugate, Chiefland and Cedar Key city attorney, and Chiefland Vice Mayor Teresa Barron. 

  • McLelland back at CHS

    Chiefland High School graduate Matt McLelland is back at the school — this time as principal. 

    McLelland, who was assistant principal at the school last year, was before the end of the year transferred to Williston High School, where he was promoted to principal. 

    Last week, he accepted a job as principal at Trenton High School in Gilchrist County. 

  • There's the church and there's the steeple

    There's no date on when the bell will ring for the first time but a good guess is by Sunday the United Methodist Church in Chiefland will be calling its congregation to worship using its new bell housed in a new steeple.

    The steeple was installed on Wednesday afternoon by J&L Construction and Williston Crane.

    An anonymous donor funded the purchase of the bell made in 1898 and the steeple done by J&L Construction. 


  • Public meeting on Bronson youth sports Tuesday


     The newly formed Bronson Parks & Recreation Department is having an organizational,  coach and volunteer meeting Tuesday, Aug. 7, at 6 p.m. at the Dogan S. Cobb Municipal Building 660 E. Hathaway Ave, Bronson.

  • GOP headquarters opening Saturday

    The Levy County Republican Executive Committee will have the grand opening of its 2012 election headquarters on Saturday, Aug. 4., the first day of  early voting for the Aug. 14 primary.
       The office will be open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through the primary, then open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. The schedule will increase as it gets closer to the elections.
       The office is at the back side of Chantilly place in Bronson.

  • GOP seeks volunteers for Tampa convention

    The Committee on Arrangements for the 2012 Republican National Convention is  seeking volunteers to work when the RNC meets Aug. 27-30 in Tampa.

  • Free dental check for service animals at UF

    The University of Florida’s Small Animal Hospital will offer free dental screening examinations to service animals Aug. 23 as a part of the American Veterinary Dental College’s new national oral health care examination program.
    Service animals typically include guide dogs, disability-assistance dogs, detection dogs, police dogs, search-and-rescue dogs and formally trained and certified therapy dogs.

  • March of Dimes seeking grant proposals

    The March of Dimes Florida Chapter is seeking proposals for grant projects in Florida that will address unmet maternal health needs.
