  • Sunshine Week shines bright in state

    For two weeks at the end of February, reporters from 31 news organizations, including the Chiefland Citizen (Levy Newspaper Group), participated in a project with the Florida Press Association to determine the availability or records from Florida's clerks and court offices in all of the state's 67 counties.

  • Four face charges in death of child

    Four women from Inglis are in custody, accused in the death of a child, according to a report by the State Attorney’s Office in the Eighth Judicial Circuit in Levy County.

  • New boating restrictions on Suwannee

    Boating on the Suwannee River has been restricted in Zone 4 — from County Road 340 bridge at Rock Bluff to one mile below the Fowlers Bluff boat ramp.

    The action was taken on Sunday by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission after floodwaters at Wilcox rose above 9 feet. The 51-mile segment will be an idle-speed, no-wake zone as long as the Suwannee is at 9 feet on the Wilcox gauge, where flood stage is 11 feet.

    All five idle-speed, no-wake zones along the Suwannee and Santa Fe rivers are now activated.

    The week of March 10-17 is Sunshine Week and the Chiefland Citizen is running this logo to remind all patriotic Floridians, especially Levy County residents, that it is your right to know what your government is doing in your name. 

  • Funny car driver visits Thursday

    The National Hit Rod Association driver Ron Capps, who drives the NAPA Auto Parts Dodge Charger, will visit the Chiefland NAPA store on Thursday, March 14 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. 

    Capps is currently No. 1 in the NHRA funny car standings this season after finishing just 2 points behind the winner in 2012. It was his fourth 2nd place finish. 

    He will be available to sign autographs and there will be door prizes and food. The store is located at 1512 N.W. 5th St.

  • Suwannee River Fair opens

    It's that time of year — even if it does not feel like it — for the 61st annual Suwannee River Youth Livestock Show and Sale.

  • Correction: Church yard sale on Friday Saturday

    The First Baptist Church of Chiefland's Huge Yard Sale is Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

    An article in Thursday's Chiefland Citizen had the wrong days for the sale.

    All proceeds benefit the church's food pantry.
