  • Suspect arrested in club shooting

    A Citra man was arrested Wednesday and charged with shooting and wounding a man after an altercation early Sunday outside a Williston nightclub.

    James Wilkerson, 36, of Citra, is charged with aggravated assault with a firearm and his bond is $200,000.

    The Levy County Sheriff's Office does not know how much it spent on overtime this Labor Day weekend, but one thing it does know is that it prevented a hip hop extravaganza planned for 2.4 acres at 21151 N.E. U.S. Highway 27outside Williston.

  • UPDATED: No-wake zone on Suwannee River


    When Suwannee River floodwaters at Wilcox rose above 9 feet on Sunday, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) activated boating restrictions on Zone 4.

    This section is from the County Road 340 Bridge at Rock Bluff to 1 mile below the Fowler Bluff Boat Ramp. This 51-mile segment will be an idle-speed, no-wake zone as long as the Suwannee is at 9 feet on the Wilcox gauge, where flood stage is 11 feet.

  • Devil's Hammock reopens

    From the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission:

    Devil’s Hammock WMA – All roads have been reopened to public vehicle use.

    Roads had been closed due to flooding.

  • UPDATED Court calls off hip hop concert

    Organizers of a “Labor Day Hip Hop Extravaganza” near Williston on Saturday that was to draw performers from Tampa, South Florida and Texas, and more than 1,000 concertgoers has been halted by a temporary court injunction issued late Friday afternoon.

    The injunction, issued Friday afternoon by 8th Circuit Judge William Davis, covers the entire county, so the event cannot be moved from its planned location on 2.4 acres at an RV park at 21151 N.E. U.S. Highway 27. 

  • Yoho wants Obama to seek approval on Syria

    U.S. Rep. Ted Yoho (R-District 3), whose district includes Levy County, said Thurday that President Barack Obama will need Congress's approval to take U.S. military action in Syria, where that country's government is being accused of using chemical weapons on its citizens in its battle with rebels. 

  • County Commission budget hearing Thursday, Sept. 5

    The Levy County Commission has scheduled the following public hearings on the 2013-2014 budhget and the special assessments:

    • The hearing to adopt the tentative 2013-2014 budget is Thursday, Sept. 5, at 6 p.m.

    • The hearing ont he special assessments for roas, solid waste, the Levy Cpunty Emergency Medical Service and the county fire services is Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 6:30 p.m. 

    • The hearing on the final 2013-2014 budget will be Monday, Sept. 16, at 6 p.m.
