  • Pole barn, hay burn in Bronson

    Bronson Fire Department, Levy County Department of Public Safety Battalion 1, Medic 6 and Chiefland Fire Department were dispatched to a Bronson pole barn on fire just before 8 p.m., Nov. 6. 

       The first unit on scene found a fully involved structure full of hay located in Bronson. The owner of the barn had filled it with hay earlier in the day. The building was a total loss. No animals were inside the barn or injured in the fire. Bronson Fire Department remained on scene to secure the area and exposures. 

  • Court Dispositions published November 14

    The following cases were decided in Levy County in the 8th Judicial Circuit criminal court in the month of September.  When a case is nolle pros, it means the charge will not be prosecuted, in essence it is dropped.

  • Clay Landing Days coming at end of November

    Manatee Springs State Park and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection are hosting the annual Clay Landing Days event Nov. 29 and 30, beginning at 10:30 a.m.  

  • City commission holds on harvest

    Chiefland commissioners stalled a proposal by city staff Monday night to sell the timber growing on about 30 acres of a city well site.

  • Chiefland woman arrested in arson

    A Chiefland woman has been arrested and charged with one count of arson after an investigation into a structure and vehicle fire on Monday at  Northeast 351 Highway, just north of Cross City, according to a Dixie County Sheriff's Office press release.

  • City looking into controlling unleashed dogs

    Chiefland commissioners have given city staff permission to look into a new program aimed at controlling roaming dogs within city limits.

  • Man dies in one vehicle accident

    A 30-year-old man died in a one-vehicle at Northwest 50th Avenue and Northwest 165th Street on Tuesday at about 12:50 p.m., according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

    Michael Paul Sache of Trenton was driving northbound on Northwest 50th Avenue in a 2001 Honda Accord when for an unknown reason the vehicle left the road and went onto the grass shoulder. It continued on for another 100 feet until the front end collided with a tree. Sache was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

  • Chiefland Christmas Festival signup opens

    Now is the time to sign up for the Chiefland Chamber of Commerce Christmas Festival, Parade and the 2nd annual Rudolf 5k Run all happening on Saturday, Dec. 7.

    The vendor application for artists, crafters and informational vendors and the parade application can be found on the Chiefland Citizen website, www.chieflandcitizen.com. The Chamber no longer has any food vendor spaces available. 

    If you are interested in being one of our vendors just print the form and mail with your check or money order as soon as possible. 

  • CMHS sweets auction begins at 6 tonight

    The Chiefland Middle High School Student Government Association's annual cake and pie auction is  Thursday, Nov. 21. The doors open at 6 p.m. for previewing and bidding starts at 6:30.
