  • County to City: Send us a letter on library

    The City of Chiefland wants to change the terms of its contract with Levy County for the operation of the Luther Callaway Public Library located behind City Hall, but the county is not budging. 

  • U.S. 19 closure Friday for CMHS Homecoming parade

     Florida Department of Transportation new for LEVY COUNTY:

     

    U.S. 19  The road will be temporarily closed Friday (November 8) from 4-6 p.m. between Alternate U.S. 27 and Southeast Fourth Avenue (State Road 345) for the Chiefland High School homecoming parade. Chiefland Police will detour traffic.

  • Memorial service for Sheriff's K9s Nov. 13

     A memorial service for two K9 deputies who died in recent months will be held Nov. 13 at 10 a.m.at the Suwannee River Youth Livestock Show and Sale arena on U.S. Highway 19 at State Road 26. 

    Levy County Sheriff Bobby McCallum said the public is invited to attend and remember K9 officer Robiek who worked with Deputy Clint Anderson and  K9 officer Taz who served almost 10 years with Cpl. Pete Barnes. 

  • Toys for Tots back in Levy County

    It was bout this time last year when area residents found out there'd be no Toys for Tots in Levy County.
    The Tri-Counties Toys for Tots that had been handling the effort to get toys to children during the holidays had been scaled back to just Dixie County, and locals in Levy County had to step up to help fill the need that continues to grow every year.
    But representatives with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program want the folks in Levy and Gilchrist counties to know the program is on its way back.

  • Levy DCF to close by March

    The Florida Department of Children and Families will be closing its ACCESS service center for public assistance in Levy County, located at 124 N. Main St. in Chiefland, by March 2014.

  • Beast Feast a success for Levy County schools

    The Levy County Schools Foundation 4th Annual Beast Feast was a huge success.  There were more than 180 guests with another 30 children 17 years old and younger.  

  • Citizen publisher speaks at Chamber

    Gerry Mulligan, Florida regional manager of LCNI and publisher of the Citrus County Chronicle and the four publications that make up the Levy Newspaper Group, was the special guest speaker at the Greater Chiefland Area Chamber of Commerce's monthly meeting Oct. 25.

  • County DPS at seafood festival

    Staff with the Levy County Department of Public Safety (LCDPS) attended the Seafood Festival in Cedar Key Oct. 19 and 20. At the event, the public was provided an opportunity to meet some of the LCDPS staff and receive information about breast cancer awareness and fire prevention. Several members of the local community stopped by to meet the crew and ask questions about the services LCDPS offers.
