  • County DPS at seafood festival

    Staff with the Levy County Department of Public Safety (LCDPS) attended the Seafood Festival in Cedar Key Oct. 19 and 20. At the event, the public was provided an opportunity to meet some of the LCDPS staff and receive information about breast cancer awareness and fire prevention. Several members of the local community stopped by to meet the crew and ask questions about the services LCDPS offers.

  • Homecoming pride

    Bronson shut down U.S. 27A/North Hathaway Avenue on Thursday, Oct. 24, to show its blue and orange pride int he Eagles football team.

    On Friday, the school crowned its king and queen at halftime. 

     

     

  • Sheriff says county needs help on traffic

    Twenty people have died in traffic accidents in Levy County and there's still two months left to go in 2013. That number of fatalities surpasses all of 2012.

  • Mistrial in Williston Crab Fest shooting trial

    A mistrial was granted Wednesday morning in the trial of Devonte Tremaine Ocasio, 20, in the Williston Crab Fest shootings after information received late in the case about Ocasio's arrest came to the attention of his attorneys.

    Eighth Judicial Circuit Judge Stan Griffis III granted the defense motion for a mistrial after defense attorneys also waived their prior motion demanding a speedy trial on chages of homicide, aggravated assault and aggravated battery. 

  • Girl, 7, dies, 5 others injured in Sunday accident

    A 7-year-old girl died just hours after the SUV she was riding in on U.S. Highway 27A had a right rear tire blow out causing the vehicle to leave the paved road and overturn at 9:40 a.m. on Sunday, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report. Three passengers, including the girl were ejected from the 2003 Ford Explorer that was westbound on on 27A.

    Chloe Paraison, of Pompano Beach, was pronounced dead at 12:56 p.m. by Dr. S. Larson at UF Health's Shands Hospital in Gainesville.

    Paraison is the 20th traffic fatality in Levy County since Jan. 1.

  • Williston man dies in Marion wreck

    A Williston man was killed Sunday in an early morning accident on County Road 326 in Marion County.

    David Eugene Harrington Jr., 22, was pronounced dead on the scene, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

    Harrington was driving a 2000 Chevy pickup westbound on CR 326 and approached the intersection of Northwest 150th Avenue at a high rate of speed, according to the FHP.

  • Chiefland man dies in Dixie crash

    A driver faces several DUI charges after a Friday night series of crashes on County Road 349 in Dixie County  that left a Chiefland father dead, his 5-month-old child injured, and the infant's mother hospitalized in serious condition, according to an Florida Highway Patrol report.

  • Passenger dies in crash

    A Williston man has died Friday night in a one-vehicle crash on State Road 121, according toa Florida Highway Patrol report. 

    He is the 19th traffic fatality for Levy County in 2013. It is the second traffic fatality in the past 7 days. 

    Rodney Allem Sims, 38, was not wearing a seatbelt when the 2007 Hyundai sedan he was riding in crashed. He was pronounced dead at the scene byLevy County EMS. 

  • Williston man dies after Inglis crash

    A horrific-looking crash scene was the result of a three-car wreck Wednesday on U.S. 19 just south of the Levy County line.

    According to preliminary information from the Florida Highway Patrol, one vehicle was traveling the wrong way when the crash happened. The driver of the wrong-way vehicle, Ernest E. Rinas, 58, of Williston, died on Saturday at Shands Hospital in Gainesville.
