  • Teachers may get 4% raise by Christmas

    Levy County teachers and staff could have a merry Christmas this year as their Dec. 20 paychecks could include a 4 percent pay raise dating back to the start of the school year and help in paying insurance premiums.

    Levy School Superintendent Bob Hastings confirmed that negotiators for the Levy County School District and the Levy Education Association reached the agreement on the raises and insurance benefit in negotiations on Thursday evening. 

  • Chiefland FFA team finalist in national competition

    A team from Chiefland Middle High School's Senior FFA is a national finalist in 2013 National FFA Agriscience Fair at 86th National FFA Convention & Expo in Louisille, Ky.

    Sydney Stephens and Kristen Moore, were named finalists at the gathering held Oct. 30-Nov. 2.

    The National FFA Agriscience Fair is a competition for FFA members who are interested in the science and technology of agriculture. It is held each year during the National FFA Convention & Expo and sponsored nationally by Cargill, John Deere and Syngenta.

  • County gets preview of state road construction plans

    Officials with the state Department of Transportation's District 2 office in Lake City came to the Levy County Commission meeting on Tuesday and while it was not like Christmas Day, their assurances on a proposed five-year plan for road construction in Levy were warmly greeted.

  • Walmart Toys for Tots toy drive

    Walmart in Chiefland has been authorized by its corporate office to help with the Toys for Tots drive, according to toy drive organizer Bryan Chrisp. The drive will consist of three weekends beginning Nov. 29. 

  • Toys for Tots registrations Saturday in Chiefland, Bronson

    Toys for Tots registration events will take place Saturday, Nov. 23, in the Fellowship Hall at the First United Methodist Church in Chiefland from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and on Monday, Nov. 25, in the media center at Bronson Middle/High School from 3 - 7 p.m.

  • County takes a leap forward in emergency transport

    The Levy County Department of Public Safety (LCDPS) has added a new resource to its arsenal of public safety equipment to serve the citizens and visitors of Levy County.

    On Nov. 1, Air Methods began 24-hour-a-day air transport services based out of the Levy County Public Safety Complex, located in Bronson.

    This partnership has provided the citizens and visitors in Levy County with an Emergency Medical Service aircraft based in the County that one typically would not see in a rural setting.

    The annual event, hosted by the Chiefland Woman's Club, honors the men and women who serve their communities in law enforcement and public safety. Long and Starkey were both presented with awards.  

    Ronnie LeCompte and Mandy Willis were just two of several to take home awards for service Oct. 22 during the event.
