A 65-year-old Raiford woman died on Saturday, June 15, while swimming with family at Bob’s River Place off of Northeast Highway 340 in Old Town.

According to witnesses, the victim was swimming at the recreational area when she walked out onto the floating dock and jumped into the river.  When she didn’t resurface after several minutes, a family member jumped into the river and located the victim at which point he pulled her to the bank.

He was assisted by other bystanders in moving the victim to level ground where they began cardiopulmonary resuscitation efforts.  Dixie County EMS and Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene. Efforts to revive the victim failed and she was pronounced dead at approximately 11:45am.

The victim’s body was taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Gainesville to determine the cause of death.
