Win No. 2 escapes Eagles in extra innings

Bronson coach Allen Strickland held his fore finger and thumb about a half inch apart and said, “We were that close.”
They were.
Well, at least 90 feet anyway, or 16 inches, depending on how one looks at it.
Bronson, playing at home on a cool and breezy night, couldn’t ice its second win of the season, falling 9-4 against Hawthorne in nine innings
The Eagles (1-8 overall, 1-6 in District 5-2A play) were in great shape to win it, with runners at second and third with no outs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Of the many missed opportunities at scoring the winning run, failure to lay down a bunt in fair territory hurt the most as a strikeout and a pair of ground outs ended the threat.
“You can’t ask for a better situation,” Strickland said. “Just 16 inches to the left on that bunt (by Hayden Bedford) and it’s fair and we score, then we go home happy. Everybody’s flying high, but it didn’t happen. That’s just the way that it goes.”
