As many as 10,000 people are expected in Williston this weekend when Crabfest 2013 gets under way.

Historically, this annual celebration began as a cookout and has now grown to be one of the fastest growing cultural celebrations in the area, according to Gussie M. Boatwright, one of the event’s organizers.

This spirit of this year’s event has been raised with the addition of a fair, an entertainment stage, vendors from across the southeast, car and motorcycle show and pony rides centrally located in one area.

In support of the family centered mission, many non-profit groups will be on hand Sunday afternoon to distribute information that may improve the quality of life for reisdents.

All events associated with Crabfest will  take place on East Highway 318.

The fair will provide a variety of games for all ages, rides, carnival food, a water slide and other fun activities.

Boatwright said ticket prices are reasonable and credit cards will be accepted.

“Please come prepared to have fun and fellowship with the more than 10,000 people who are expected to attend this weekend event,” she said.

The entertainment component will host a variety of artists to include DJs from Atlanta  and other areas across the Southeast.

There will also be many local artists performing and an open-mic talent contest. If you have a special talent, you might want to consider preparing to perform  Friday night.

The car and motorcycle show will showcase some of the finest vehicles in the area, Boatwright said.

“These owners are prepared to wow you with their customized vehicles. and trophies will be awarded,”?she added.

Vendors will be on hand selling a variety of food, beverages, t-shirts and other products.

“Our aim is to provide family-centered activities during this annual cultural celebration,” Boatwright said. “This 3-day event boasts of fun, fellowship and great food.”
