Tropical Storm Michael update

Levy County Emergency Management is continuing to monitor the path of Tropical Storm Michael. Currently Michael is expected to make landfall in the Florida Panhandle as a Category 1 or 2 Hurricane. We are continuing to work with the National Weather Service and National Hurricane Center to determine the effects on Levy County. We are expected to experience some impacts on Levy County, with the main concern being the storm surge potential along the coast. We will have a better picture of things after our afternoon briefing with the National Weather Service and National Hurricane Center.

Storm Surge: The National Weather Service is still working on the exact predictions for storm surge, but we can expect that there will be issues with storm surge for coastal areas of Levy County. Storm Surge predictions will change rapidly, so we will keep you up to date often on storm surge.

Watches and Warnings: Levy County is currently under a Tropical Storm Watch and a Storm Surge Watch

Severe Weather: The possibility of severe weather throughout Levy County exists Wednesday into Thursday. It is important to keep up to date with your local weather provider for information.

Evacuations and Sheltering: There are no evacuations or sheltering at this time. We will update you if this changes.

Protective Measures: Residents and visitors should check their emergency kits and review their emergency plans. Residents along the coast should keep a close eye on storm surge predictions and be ready to take protective measures to ensure they are safe from any potential storm surge

School and Government Closures: It is still too early to determine school and government closures. We should have information on the status of schools by later this afternoon.
