Town hall meeting tonight in Bronson to detail RESTORE Act

-A A +A

A series of public meetings have been scheduled in Levy County to explain funding that could benefit the county arising from the 2010 Deepwater Horizon explosion and resulting oil spill.

The meeting schedule is:

n June 11, 6 p.m., county courthouse, Bronson

n July 2, 6 p.m, Cedar Key Community Center

n July 16, 6 p.m., Inglis/Yankeetown – location to be announced

The purpose of the meetings is to inform residents about settlements stemming from the largest oil spill in U.S. history, and the RESTORE Act that was signed into law July 2012. RESTORE stands for Resources and Ecosystems Sustainability, Tourist Opportunity and Revived Economics.

Money is being divided into several “pots” that are then distributed accordingly by rules set forth by the act. Some funding will go to counties directly or indirectly impacted by the spill, while other money will go to state funds to help with continuing restoration efforts.
