Time to Give Blood

10/18/2017 - 9:00am - 6:00pm

With summer vacations now behind us and the biggest season of all underway – football season – it’s a good time to think about donating blood.

During the summer, when school is out and student numbers drop on university campuses, the blood supply takes an annual dip as well. Now, with students back and vacations over, donors are needed to rebuild the community blood supply.

The blood used in an emergency is already on the shelves before the event occurs. To help keep the blood supply at safe levels, the employees at Chiefland City Hall and the Chiefland office of the Florida Department of Transportation are continuing a friendly blood drive competition. They are hosting a blood drive on Wednesday, October 18 at both locations. They invite you to come out to either location and credit your donation to their team.

The bloodmobile will be at Chiefland City Hall, 214 East Park Avenue between the hours of 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.  Look for the bloodmobile at the Florida Department of Transportation Office, 1820 South Young Blvd. in Chiefland between the hours of Noon and 6 p.m.  Donors may give at either location and credit their donation to the desired group at registration.

All who donate will a recognition item and a complimentary cholesterol screening. Donors must be at least 16 years old, weigh 110 pounds or more, and have photo I.D. Sixteen-year-old donors must have signed parental consent. For more information about becoming a donor or about blood drives in your area, call LifeSouth at (888) 795-2707 or visit www.lifesouth.org.
