The Lower Suwannee National Wildlife Refuge Hunter Working Group met at Refuge headquarters last week.  They drove from six counties and from as far away as Manatee and Pasco Counties to meet with management about the 2010-2011 hunting season.

Most of the Hunter Working Group have been hunting the Lower Suwannee NWR for over a decade.  a younger hunter, Tristen Robinson, brought to the meeting by mentor and Grandfather Joe Page--see the benefit of attending these annual meetings.  Refuge Manager John Kasbohm supports a dialog and encourages discussion of possible changes for the coming season.

Everyone who hunts the Lower Suwannee NWR knows Refuge Officer McCain; he is a part of their hunting experience. Only those who violate aren’t happy to see him. Each year at the meeting, he reviews problems and violations he noted throughout the season.

Assistant Manager Daryl Magnuson reviewed the 2009-2010 harvest for the Refuge’s over one-hundred days of free hunting and two quota hunts.  He stressed the importance of returning harvest reports to the Refuge, so that more can be known about the health of the population.
