SV Rotary looks to trim the fat

There were lots of salads for lunch at the Aug. 24 Suwannee Valley Rotary Club meeting as certified health coach Rose Gleichowski spoke to the club about eating right and losing weight.
Gleichowski, who owns a Gainesville weight loss clinic, said weight loss can be frustrating because it's a lot of work. People need to exercise, eat less and eat better.
"You don't see quick results if you do it properly," she told the club members. The human body has to burn 3,500 calories to burn about 1 pound of fat, she said. A runner, running a 9-minute mile pace, burns about 300 calories every 30 minutes.
"You have to be committed, and you have to work on all three. Exercise as your sole method of weight loss is always going to be difficult. And eating less doesn't mean you’re eating healthy."
In order to eat healthy, people need to take a look at what they're eating. Too often, she said, people opt for what's fast and easy: processed foods loaded with carbohydrates and sugar.
