Candidates for Levy County Schools Superintendent Robert Hastings and Jeff Edison met Monday night at the old Bronson High School auditorium to speak to voters and answer questions about their respective campaigns.

Hastings presented himself as the candidate for change, stressing the need to improve the dynamic between administration and teachers while Assistant Superintendent Edison placed his focus on putting kids first.

"We need an administration that cares about employees," said Hastings. "There are changes coming, I assure you, there are changes coming."

Edison, who currently oversees curriculum and instruction for the district, stated that "Education is about people, children, parents and all the folks that work in the system. It is vitally important to me to find people who put kids first."

The Superintendent Forum, a first of its kind sponsored by the Levy County Educators Association, a union that represents approximately 450 school employees in the district, was moderated by retired Levy County Sheriff's Officer, Chuck Bastak. Nearly 60 members of the community attended.
