A strange watchdog

-A A +A

Since we moved to Florida, I’ve noticed that people keep donkeys. I’m one of those people who never thought that a donkey was worth a whole lot, but I’ve since learned that I have been mistaken on that subject.
Many people in this state have realized that donkeys can perform a valuable service.
The other day I was driving through the back 40, on my way to Ed and Jessica’s house, when all of a sudden a coyote jumped in front of me and nearly damaged my beautiful new truck.  That would have been a real bummer.
Coyotes can be a real problem in this state, especially if you raise sheep or other small animals. After all, they’ve got to eat, too.
In order to protect their livestock, some people raise donkeys and put them out to pasture with their sheep and other small animals.
I’ve been told that a donkey’s innate hatred of anything resembling a dog, including a coyote, makes it an ideal watch animal.
