Saw career and adult education opportunities at Chiefland High School

By Ryan Butler

One month into his job, Rod Duckworth has been very busy.
The new Florida D.O.E. Chancellor for the Division of Career and Adult Education visited Chiefland High School on April 17. It's part of a state-wide tour that also saw him visit Williston Middle School. Relocating from his native Arkansas, Duckworth and his team are looking to get a feel for his new state.
"The part I'm most excited about it that these classes promote opportunities that allows (students) a chance to further experience carer opportunities," Duckworth said. "These are tremendous opportunities and I hope to continue to support them with."
While in Chiefland, Duckworth saw the high school's career and technical development departments, of which nearly 25 percent of CHS students are involved with. Programs include the Graphic Design Academy, which offers five levels of classes. Students can learn skills to become industry certified in Dream Weaver, Flash and Photoshop, among other programs. Around 120 CHS students participate in at least one of the five classes.
