The 12th Annual STARS Gala, hosted by the Levy County Schools Foundation, will be held Saturday at Chiefland Elementary School, but this is much more than a gathering of the county's movers and shakers. The event's theme this year is Set Sail For Education: Port Levy,
The event raises money for students to go on field trips, for teachers to help classes take on educational projects and for high school graduates to attend college.
When the doors open at 5:30 and the guests sit down at 6 p.m. they will go on a virtual tasting tour of Levy County's restaurants. The businesses that cater to the public every day will be showing off their best at the meal that is served by honor students from Chiefland High School.
STARS, which stands for Students, Teachers, and Respected Supporters, is also a showcase of some of the school system's best hidden and most exceptionally talented children and young adults. Students sing, perform music, and in the past have even amazed the adults with expertly done magic tricks. Emceeing the gathering is School Superintendent Bob Hastings.
Who will be on stage is kept secret until the evening of the event, which adds to the enjoyment of the performance.
Formerly known as the Superintendent’s Gala, STARS is the Foundation’s premier fundraising event, raising more than $109,000.
For the Levy County Schools Foundation, a not-for-profit organization established in 1989 to support Levy County schools, this event has become a Levy County tradition which provides an opportunity for members of the business community, civic leaders, and local residents to gather in support of local education.
In addition to the meal and entertainment, there will be a silent auction and door prizes.
The highlight of the evening will be the announcement of the Foundation’s Alumni of the Year.
To reserve tickets, or donate door prizes contact the Levy County Schools Foundation at 352-486-3408 or email  lcsf@levy.k12.fl.us. Contributions are tax deductible.
