Marine Sgt. Stephen Roberts visited classes at Chiefland Elementary School on Monday to read to kindergarteners. Roberts, the son of CES Guidance Counselor Michelle Barron, is based at Quantico, Va., where he is a combat instructor for other Marines being deployed overseas. He can draw on his experience in instructing other Marines having served two tours in Iraq, then two in Afghanistan. Roberts said the classroom visits are a way to give back to the community. He said when he is based in Hawaii, his home base, he has participated in Special Olympics and Shoebox for Kids projects sponsored by the Marine Corps. At the end of his reading session Roberts gave each student an American flag to remind them of his visit.
