OUR VIEW: Personal agendas? Or betterment of county?

  Despite a relatively new Board of County Commissioners and promises to do away with the "old way" of doing things, it appears to be politics as usual in Levy County.

If residents of Levy County want to volunteer their talents and services for the betterment of the community, apparently they had better make sure that they are friends with a county commissioner first.

Several months ago, commissioner Marsha Drew made a grandstanding gesture that the county needed to adopt a policy for handling appointments and taking public applications after publicly advertising for openings to its many advisory boards. This makes sense – there are more than likely many citizens of Levy County with varied backgrounds and areas of expertise that could be of benefit to the county.

Drew's suggestion sat there like the last swig of milk in the refrigerator that everyone was afraid to finish off.
