No billboard for Cedar Key this year

“Come to Cedar Key” is not a message motorists driving on Interstate 75 are likely to see in 2012.
Not unless some entity other than the Levy County Tourist Development Council is willing to pay for it.
Council members told a small group requesting $10,000 at the LCTDC’s March 29 meeting that there are no funds for such a project in the current budget.
County Commissioner Ryan Bell, there on behalf of Cedar Key residents, told the council, “We trust you to … spend the money the way it needs to be spent.” Cedar Key is an economic boon for the county, he said, and a billboard would increase traffic into the county.
Cedar Key businessman and chamber member Bruce Wilson agreed. “A rising tide lifts all the boats,” he said. “If we could get a billboard out on the Interstate… it could bring people all the way through the county.”
Another member of the group told the council that hotels, RVs and other accommodations—about 545 rooms— in Cedar Key paying the local bed tax bring in about $100,000 a year.
