Need for hospital in Chiefland

-A A +A

I, for one, would appreciate knowing where Noel Desmond picked up the statistics of how many people would use a hospital in Chiefland.  He states people would rather drive 50 miles to Gainesville for medical assistance.
This is fine for those who are healthy, able bodied people with their own transportation.  How about older people who have no transportation, or who have problems? Like me, for instance. A bad back makes it uncomfortable for me to ride an hour and sit for a long period for attention, then an hour home. Macular degeneration is setting in and my sight is also becoming limited.
It isn't always easy for those with problems to arrange for someone to take them to doctors, and this is only the physical side of it.  How about fuel prices?
Also, how about the opportunity for work?  Building a hospital would engage a great many initially in the building, and long time employment staffing.
Everyone I've talked to is looking forward to the possibility of medical facilities in our area.  Personally, I believe it to be long overdue.
