The Levy County Raiders beat the Belleview Sabers 6-0 during the team's final preseason game on Jan. 12 in Williston.

On the Raiders' opening drive, they drove 78 yards for the game's only score. The Raiders ran behind a massive offensive line led by tackles A.J. and Mike Reaves, guards Matt Ulseth and Newberry's own Steve Whitmer, center Ken Marr and tight ends Ron Fisher and Mark Marrazo. That front opened big holes all night, but the offense could only muster six points when fullback Tim Jenkins scored from five yards out.

The running game was led by red Ellison's 118 yards on 18 carries. Marlin Williams had 112 yards on 13 attempts and Jenkins finished with 80 yards on 11 carries.

The Raiders passed for 80 yards, with Ross Williams catching a pass for 46 yards to lead the way.

The Raiders' defense allowed just 60 total yards in pitching the shutout. End Delmar Dial recorded nine solo stops, including five for a loss, and a pair of sacks. Mark James had 11 tackles, including 6 solo stops, 3 for a loss and a fumble recovery. Linebackers Calvin Williams (11 tackles, 2 sacks) and Ron Fisher (9 tackles, 2 sacks) also were solid. The secondary was led by Jerry Knettles with four pass deflections and an interception. Newcomer Shyrus Rolle, the cousin of former NFL cornerback Samari Rolle, had six tackles.

The regular season starts on Saturday when the Raiders host the North Florida Vikings at 7 p.m. in Bronson. The game was scheduled for Palatka but the Vikings were unable to secure a field there.

The Raiders are still looking for players and coaches. Contact player/coach Ron Fisher at (352) 210-6549 for more information.
