Learning about Veterans Day

-A A +A

Students at Chiefland Elementary School learned about the history Veterans Day, how to know a veteran and why they should thank veterans. Principal Angela Thomas had the sessions so students would understand why they had a holiday from school. Members of VFW Post 5625 did a gun salute and demonstrated how the flag is folded from a casket and presented to a widow. Past Commander David Petty of AMVETS Post 88 spoke on soldiering and compared war to spinach saying “Most people don't like it. War is not good. But sometimes we have to do it.” He went on to say Veterans Day is “where we get to say thanks for those who fight for our freedoms, like the freedom to go to school.”
