Last day for voter registration for Jan. 31 primary

   The last day to register to vote in the 2012 Florida presidential preference primary is Tuesday, Jan. 3. The primary is Jan. 31.  
   Levy County residents can apply to register to vote at the Supervisor of Elections office at 421 S. Court St., Bronson, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or drop them in the mailbox at the supervisor's office this evening. All applications in the box will be processed, according to a spokeswoman for the supervisor's office. For more information, call 352-486-5163.
   To vote in an election, a person must be registered in the state by the book closing date, which is normally the 29th day before each election.
Book closing dates for other 2012 election cycle are:
• July 16 for the primary election, and
• Oct. 9 for the general election.
