Chiefland commission Group 1 candidate Chris Jones automatically won his bid for office Thursday.
The votes for the seat, taken Aug. 6, were not counted due to the death of incumbent candidate Frank Buie just days before the election.
A special election was called, but no other candidates for the seat qualified by the Aug. 22 deadline.
"I'm glad it's over, to be honest with you," Jones said in a phone interview Thursday afternoon.
Jones, who will be sworn in Sept. 9, said he's both nervous and excited to fill the seat. Still, he said, he's ready to get to work.
"I'm going up there to do what is right for the community."
