Indians fall short despite offensive explosion

-A A +A

To borrow from a Charles Dickens’ line, “it was the best of games, it was the worst of games” this past Friday night as Lafayette came to visit.

The Chiefland Indians (0-3) made some huge strides with their offensive production in Friday night’s matchup against the Hornets of Lafayette High School (3-0), scoring 53 points, racking up 455 yards on the ground and adding another 105 through the air.

The Indians used six different running backs and quarterback Ty Corbin used five different receivers throughout the game.

Despite all of their success, Chiefland ended up on the wrong side of a 54-53 game that saw 10 touchdowns in the first half and the tribe with a 41-27 lead.

The game started out promising as the Chiefland defense held the Hornets to a 3-and-out for the first possession, then came charging down the field in five plays to score on a 15-yard Jarrett Jarrels run. The PAT was good and Chiefland held a 0-7 lead.

Lafayette fumbled the ensuing kickoff, which was recovered by Chiefland on the 40-yard line.
