Hard to believe it's almost over

The end of the high school football season is almost upon us.

Didn?t it just get started?

My, did it ever go fast, but I guess it?s always that way when you don?t make the playoffs.

Chiefland will play its final game of the season Friday night at Trenton.

The Indians need a victory to finish at 5-5 ?which would be an important milestone for coach Ajay Ulmer in his first season.

Don?t get me wrong, Trenton would love to defeat its Levy County neighbor, but the Tigers have bigger fish to fry. They will travel to Port St. Joe in a 1A regional opener Nov. 16.

The lone Levy County school to qualify for the playoffs is Williston, which was district runnerup. The Devils play in Class 3A. They will open against Crystal River on Nov. 16.

It?s fitting that the area?s two independents ?Bronson and Bell ?play each other in their season finales. Bell has enjoyed a fine 7-2 season while Bronson will try to win one for the gipper, as Friday night will be head coach Greg Brochetti?s final game as button-pusher for the Eagles.
