Gent to go bowling

-A A +A
By Claude Lewis

The lineups are set for the bowl games in one of the strangest college football seasons in memory.

The good news for Sunshine State fans is that five of the seven D1 schools are going bowling.

Of course, Florida and Florida State are playing a 13th game. South Florida is going for the third straight year. Central Florida is in its second bowl game. Florida Atlantic will be in its first ever.

It could have been six out if seven, but Miami was a slacker.

Florida International didn't win a game.

Eye-opening Florida Atlantic earned a trip to the Dec. 21 New Orleans Bowl by upsetting Troy in their Sun Belt showdown last Saturday.

Chiefland's Cortez Gent was again a key, catching a touchdown pass.

Gent, a sophomore, leads the Owls in receptions with 61 in 11 games. He has gobbled up 1,030 yards, or 16.9 yards per catch. He has nine TD receptions on the season.

FAU (7-5) will play Memphis (7-5) at 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 21, in New Orleans. The game will be shown by ESPN2.
