Fair president gives updates on new facility

A last-minute change in work crews ended up expediting the construction of the new Suwanee River Fair Grounds.
Local prison crews helped clean out all valuables at the existing facilities early last week. That left no need for the Saturday morning work day for area volunteers called by the Fair board.
“We appreciate people coming out because they would be here if we needed them,” said Fair president Loran Brookins. “We’d rather have the prisoners do it,”
Brookins said he found out about the prisoners coming on Tuesday, Sept. 4. That left little time to for mass communication with potential volunteers that the event was off.
With the work completed early, it sets the Fair in even better position for its targeted Feb. 1 completion date.
The front of the existing building will be torn down within a week or two, Brookins said. It will be replaced by a large, barn-shapped building.
“It will look totally different,” Brookins said.
