Every day is turkey day

This is the time of year when folks like to talk turkey.

While turkey hunting season is still a few months away in these parts, Thanksgiving gives families and friends a chance to get together over a hot turkey dinner with all the trimmings.

Like millions of Americans, Ed Thrombeley and his family will enjoy turkey on Thanksgiving.

But unlike millions of Americans, they will be also be talking to a turkey on the national holiday.

Beloved pet turkey "Skippy" wouldn't have it any other way.

While Thrombeley has quite a collection of colorful birds, Skippy is easily the star attraction at Chiefland Farm and Nursery, located a few miles north of town off 129.

The attractive 1 1/2-year-old Royal Palm Turkey simply loves to be where the action is.

When customers pop in, Skippy can usually be found greeting them. He follows folks around, proudly showing off his pretty white and black fantail. He loves attention, almost begging to be picked up and petted. Skippy's face and neck can turn different shades of red, blue and purple, depending on his moods.
