Mining hearing delayed

By Lou Elliott Jones, Editor

A June 16 public hearing on a mining application by the Levy County Commission has been put on hold until all the Ts are crossed and the Is are dotted.

The commission decided to delay the hearing on the recommendation after Development Director Rob Corbitt asked to hold them back because all the landowners have not signed off on the special exception permit application.

The decision came in the commission’s regular meeting on Tuesday where the commission also approved writing off $558,096.06 in bad debts accrued by the county’s Emergency Medical Service from 2001 to the present, and a new schedule of fees for ambulance and emergency medical services.

Among the new fees is a charge to hospitals for a delay in transferring a patient from the EMS crew’s care into the hospital facility. The charge is $125 the first 15 minutes of time and $60 for each additional 15-minute waiting period.

“This is something that is paid by the hospital, not by the patient,” EMS Director Trish Siebold said.

The fee schedule includes:

* $550 charge for Advanced Life Support (ALS) Transport.
