County EMS future up in air

Resignations, assessments, possible merger with fire come before commission

By Lou Elliott Jones, Editor

County Emergency Medical Services may be in need of a rescue.
Director Trish Seibold submitted her resignation Monday morning to County Coordinator Freddie Moody, just three days after Assistant Director Royce Barber submitted his resignation and left the department.
On Tuesday the County Commission postponed making a decision on hiring consultants to devise a method of levying EMS assessments for property owners.
During the same Tuesday meeting Commissioner Marsha Drew of Yankeetown (R-District 3) said a Fire Advisory Board subcommittee is looking at merging the EMS director job with a proposed Fire Director position.
Moody opened up the discussion by asking the board whether it wanted to spend $38,800 for Nabors, Giblin and Government Services Group to update the EMS assessment methodology.
As the commission weighed its option, he informed them of the resignations. Barber has taken a job with North Florida Regional Medical Center.  Seibold will stay on until a new director is named.
