Congressional art contest accepting student entries

-A A +A

U.S. Rep. Rich Nugent (R-District 5) and U.S. Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-District 6) are accepting entries for the annual Congressional Art Competition, a national art contest for high-school students.

The 2011 Congressional Art Competition,  “An Artistic Discovery,” encourages high school students to develop their talent and provides the opportunity to display their work in the nation’s capital.

Each participating member of Congress can submit one piece of artwork to hang in the halls of the U.S. Capitol. Each piece must be created by a high school student who lives in the congressman’s district.   Each school is limited to a total of 10 entries, but students may submit more than one entry.  Each entry must be submitted in the original medium, and must be the original work of the student.

Specific qualifications on acceptable size, media, and content can be found at  house.gov/house/2011-art-competition-guidelines-offices.pdf.

A student must have the signature of an  art teacher to accompany their submission and a parent if the student is under 18 years of age.
