4-H Summer Camps
The Levy County 4-H hosts a variety of camps at the Bronson Agricultural Center this summer. Campers must be at least 8 years old by the date of the camp. The cost is $25 per camp or $50 for ATV camp. Camps are Monday-Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Camp fee includes breakfast, lunch, snacks, field trips and recreation.
Camps are Shooting Sports I (June 27-July 1), Sports Fishing (July 4-8), Shooting & Fishing II (July 11-15), International Food, Fun & Fitness (July 18-22), Remote Control & Science of Flight (July 25-29), Bugs & Outdoor Adventures (Aug. 1-5) and Wildlife Adventures (Aug. 8-12). Manatee & Fanning Springs
Reading Program
Manatee and Fanning Springs state parks are holding a summer reading program. For the entire month of July, children can read a paragraph out of a book to a ranger at Manatee or Fanning Springs and get a free day pass.

Christmas in July book sale
The Friends Book Store, 20351 Robinson Road, Dunnellon, will have a store-wide half-price sale during the month. Store hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily and 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.


CK Pirates in Paradise host JennieFest
The Cedar Key Pirates in Paradise are holding a fundraising event to benefit Jennie Pinto. She recently had brain surgery and will require an extended period of recovery. The theme for Jenniefest is “Cedar Key — A Small Town with a Big Heart.”
Activities begin at 9 a.m. and last into the evening. Among the activities: children selling lemonade, a barbershop quartet and other talent strolling through town sharing their songs and donating their tips and a rummage sale. Two-thousand pink hearts will be sold for a donation of $1 each. Donors can sign them and include a note as the hearts will be delivered to Pinto at the end of the event.

Public ombudsman meeting
The local council of the Florida Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program needs volunteers to work to protect the rights of elders residing in nursing homes, assisted living facilities and adult family care homes. The local council meets at Haven Hospice of North Central Florida, 4200 N.W. 90th Blvd., Gainesville to discuss current activities and give the public a chance to provide comments about long-term care facility issues. The public meeting begins at 12:30 p.m.  Concerned citizens and those interested in volunteering are welcome to attend.

Kids Ranch Rodeo
   Cross Brand Cowboy holds another in its series of Kids Ranch Rodeos at the Williston Horseman’s Park located two miles south of Williston on US. Highway 41.
Events include: barrels, mutton bustin’, ranch branding, goat undressing, goat tying, and chute doggin. Ages 7 and under start at 9 a.m., with sign ups at 8 a.m. The 8-12 year olds will start at 6 p.m., with sign ups at 5 p.m. There is a one-time registration fee of $30, and then $10 per event. This unique event is for the experienced and unexperienced.

Wood turners show in Bell
Bell WoodTurners hosts the annual Turned Wood Craft Show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Bell Community Center in Bell. All attendees will receive a free pot. Free bicycle training

National Night Out 2011
National Night Out brings neighbors together and shows criminals that our community is organized, educated and is taking a stand against crime. This event is aim at children under the age of 16.

August 6

Shrine Club breakfast
The Suwannee River Shrine Club will hold its monthly country breakfast from 7 to 10:30 a.m. at the clubhouse on State Road 26, about a half-mile north of Fanning Springs.
The menu includes sausage, eggs, bacon, biscuits, sausage gravy, grits, pancakes and coffee for $6 per person.

Fanning Chamber meeting
New board members will preside when the Fanning Springs Chamber of Commerce meets at 6 p.m. at the Chamber Office.
Presiding will be June Ladewig. Other officers include: Marty Baran, vice president/secretary, Renata Smith, treasurer, and  directors Melba Goldschlager, Elvin Ladewig, Al and Jean Barett and Cherly Nekola.
The group is seeking more volunteers to serve as directors and ideas on how to rebuild the Fanning Springs Chamber. For more information, call 352-463-9089.

The Fanning and Manatee Springs Working Group will meet at Otter Springs. This is a change of date from the previously scheduled Aug. 10 meeting.

Health & Fitness Expo
The Business Women's Alliance of the Citrus County Chamber of Commerce is hosting the original Women's Health & Fitness Expo from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the National Guard Armory in Crystal River. Preregister your firm before June 17 and choose preferred exhibit space. Classic car show in Chiefland
The Tri-County CFGC presents the Chiefland Flea Market Classic Car Show from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Registration is from 9 a.m. to noon, with awards schedule to begin at 2 p.m. Classics, late models and motorcycles are welcome with separate judging for the top 20 in each category. There will be dash plaques to the first 50 vehicles and music by DJ Jeff. A portion of the proceeds will benefit local veterans' organization.

Classic car show in Fanning Springs
The Tri-County CFGC and the Fanning Springs Chamber of Commerce present the 16th annual Festival of Lights at Fort Fanning Park. Registration is from 9-noon, with awards beginning at 3 p.m. Classics, late models and imports welcome. Dash plaques to the first 50 vehicles. There will be food and drinks as well as music by DJ Jeff. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Toys for Tots.

AMVETS Post No. 88 meetings
AMVETS Post 88 meets the second Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. The SOA meets the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. The Auxiliary meets the third Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. The meetings are at the post home.

Busy Bees meetings
Busy Bees meet at Old Town United Methodist Church on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month from 1-3 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. There will be crafting, quilting, crocheting, knitting and all kinds of needle and handwork. There are different materials to share if you would like to learn. Busy Bees donates hats, lap robes and other items made to organizations and those in need. Novices are welcome, as well as, experienced crafters. Bring your crafts, needles, yarn, patterns, ideas and questions. Open to all, no age or gender restrictions. American Legion Post 383 in Old Town has karaoke every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. Monthly meetings are at 7 p.m. the third Wednesday of each month.

Grand Slam Bridge on Monday
