Ombudsman meeting notice

The local council of Florida’s Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program meets at Haven Hospice of North Central Florida, 4200 N.W. 90th Boulevard, Gainesville to discuss the program’s current activities and give the public a chance to provide comments about long-term care facility issues.  The public meetings begin at 12:30 p.m.  Concerned citizens and those interested in volunteering are welcome to attend.

Chamber ribbon cutting

The Greater Chiefland Area Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a ribbon-cutting for one of its newest members, Mangrove Creek Outfitters at 1 p.m. the public is invited to welcome Mangrove Creek Outfitters, located at 1109 N. Young Boulevard, in Chiefland to our community. Mangrove Creek Outfitters specializes in fishing and boating gear, apparel, yeti coolers and much more.

Levy County 4-H Roundup

Each year the Levy County 4-H opens its year by having a "Roundup," marking the official first day of the 4-H year for Levy County youth and volunteers. 

The morning will begin at 8 a.m. with the Hartley Barbeque contestants registering to compete for making the best barbeque chicken. There are three age categories and the winners receive checks and awards. For more information on the Barbecue contest, contact Muriel or Lacy at 352-486-5131. At about 10 a.m., project book displays will be set up and all youth and adults will be able to see the project areas offered by the Levy County 4-H. There will be displays made by each of the 4-H Clubs in Levy County. Levy County 4-H is open to all youth ages 5-18 (as of Sept. 1, 2010) without regard to race, creed, color, religion, disability, sex, sexual orientation, marital status, national origin, political opinions or affiliations. All adults wishing to help individual clubs or specific activities are encouraged to attend. There are also county-wide clubs offering demonstrations and the opportunity to sign up and help out with the activities and events. The morning will culminate with a barbeque chicken lunch provided by the Levy County 4-H.

Hoggetowne Medieval Faire 


Actors, singers, dancers, and stage combatants are needed for the 2012 Hoggetowne Medieval Faire Living Chessboard and cast of characters.  Auditions are 9:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m. in the Hippodrome Theater Cinema.  Stage combat training will be provided for those interested. The Hoggetowne Medieval Faire will be held at the Alachua County Fairgrounds on Jan. 28-29 & Feb. 3-5, 2012. Health & Fitness Expo

The Business Women's Alliance of the Citrus County Chamber of Commerce is hosting the original Women's Health & Fitness Expo from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the National Guard Armory in Crystal River. Preregister your firm before June 17 and choose preferred exhibit space. Classic car show in Chiefland

The Tri-County CFGC presents the Chiefland Flea Market Classic Car Show from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Registration is from 9 a.m. to noon, with awards schedule to begin at 2 p.m. Classics, late models and motorcycles are welcome with separate judging for the top 20 in each category. There will be dash plaques to the first 50 vehicles and music by DJ Jeff. A portion of the proceeds will benefit local veterans' organization.

Classic car show in Fanning Springs

The Tri-County CFGC and the Fanning Springs Chamber of Commerce present the 16th annual Festival of Lights at Fort Fanning Park. Registration is from 9-noon, with awards beginning at 3 p.m. Classics, late models and imports welcome. Dash plaques to the first 50 vehicles. There will be food and drinks as well as music by DJ Jeff. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Toys for Tots.

Senior Citizen Center activities

Chiefland Senior Center, 305 S.W. 1st St., behind the Deer Camp Store on South Main Street.  Activities are free.

• Monday and Wednesday exercise at 9 a.m.

• Monday bridge at 10 a.m.

• Tuesday and Thursday bingo at 9 a.m. to noon

• Wednesday class Crafts 10 a.m. to noon

• Friday line dancing 10 a.m. to noon.

• SHINE volunteers stop by every third Wednesday to help with Medicare questions and information from 1:30-3:30 p.m. 

• Hot meals are served each week day at noon.

AMVETS Post 88 meets the second Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. The SOA meets the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. The Auxiliary meets the third Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. The meetings are at the post home.


Busy Bees meetings

Busy Bees meet at Old Town United Methodist Church on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month from 1-3 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. There will be crafting, quilting, crocheting, knitting and all kinds of needle and handwork. There are different materials to share if you would like to learn. Busy Bees donates hats, lap robes and other items made to organizations and those in need. Novices are welcome, as well as, experienced crafters. Bring your crafts, needles, yarn, patterns, ideas and questions. Open to all, no age or gender restrictions. Dixie Horseman Association

The Dixie Horseman Association wants to remind all members and potential members that the Club Roping and Game Days are always on the third Friday and Saturday of each month.  Sign-ups begin at 7 p.m. and the roping starts at 8 p.m. This is a Round Robin format with a ropers cap of No. 5. Cash payouts are awarded. The arena is on the Airport Road in Cross City. All ropers and riders must be club members. Memberships are available at all events.
