Chiefland and Trenton community members have showered a family with love and support by coming together to plan events to help raise funds for their sick daughter.

Several events have passed and more are planned to help toddler Lauren Rood and her family. Lauren is a 3 year old who had surgery to remove a tumor in April. Lauren, of Trenton, was found to have stage two Clear Cell Sarcoma Cancer in her kidneys at the beginning of May. Her parents, Ashley Rood and Tim Crews, also have a 6-year-old son.

Lauren is currently receiving chemotherapy and her family frequently travels back and forth from the hospital for treatment. This prompted many people from the tri-county area to help Lauren and her family.

Marie Poppe, owner of Marie’s Sweets in Chiefland, is one of those people who graciously donated her time to help. She is incredibly close to Lauren and her mother. Poppe held a cake auction at the beginning of May and raised $2,185 to help the family with expenses. Poppe also took a portion of her Mother’s Day Money earned from cakes and donated it to them.

“I am planning on holding a cake auction at the beginning of each month for Lauren,” Poppe said.

The auctions will be held on her business Facebook page, Marie’s Sweets.

Forward Church collected toys for Lauren to play with while at the hospital. Ali Martinez, a friend of the Rood family, spoke to the church about Lauren and they decided to collect toys.

Shelby Hope Hodge is selling gold ribbon car decals that say “Team Lauren.” Gold ribbons are the symbol for children’s cancer. Email Hodge at at Hodge62392@gmail.com or contact her on Facebook to purchase decals for $6 each.

Whitney Hilliard also held a t-shirt fundraiser for the family. Many people responded to her fundraiser by purchasing “Team Lauren” shirts.

On May 19, a concealed weapons training class was held in Rosewood. The entry fee was $10 all of the proceeds went to Lauren’s family.

Fun 4 Kids Daycare in Trenton also spent a couple of weeks selling Krispy Kreme donuts to help.

On June 8, Ag-Pro companies are holding a barbecue dinner fundraiser at 107 SW Fourth Ave., Chiefland. Please call Jennifer at 352-493-4121 to pre-order. Dinners will be available for pickup at noon.

Deanna Flowers-Pevey of Trenton is selling t-shirts available in sizes toddler to 5XL and range in price from $16-$20, depending on the size. The shirts can be ordered from Deanna’s Facebook page.

Sam Fon Shaver, member of the car club FREAKS of Nature, has also contacted Lauren’s mother and is planning a car show in the Chiefland area to raise money.

Karen Scheer of AmVets post 422 in Fanning Springs announced the post will be holding a large event for Lauren Oct. 13. More details will come later.

Also, Andria Rain is planning a beauty pageant in September.
