City water deal on the horizon

-A A +A
By Mark Scohier, Staff writer

Chiefland officials are moving toward plans to both sell water to Otter Creek and to develop what one day may be a southern expansion of the city.

Commissioners voted 4-1 Monday night in favor of further developing a proposed contract between the two municipalities after weeks of negotiating specifics related to the size of a proposed pipeline, control of that line and how much Otter Creek would pay for treated water pumped from Chiefland.

Commissioner Rollin Hudson voted against the motion, stating he was not in favor of selling water to Otter Creek at a rate thatwould be cheaper than that charged to users of city water living outside city limits. Non-residents pay 25 percent more than city residents.

But the latest plan, already approved unanimously by Otter Creek, goes further. It asks that Otter Creek not only pay less than those outside the city, but less, by about 24 percent, than those living inside the city.
