City seeks more funding for hospital infrastructure

No one objected in a public workshop Monday to City of Chiefland staff applying for about $900,000 in federal  grant money aimed at helping a proposed hospital get water and sewer.
“I think everyone is excited about this project,” Chiefland Mayor Teal Pomeroy said of the Tri-County Hospital. “We’ve sent off the letter, and we’re very hopeful, very excited.”
In weeks past, city officials were hoping to receive a Community Development Block Grant from the Florida Department of Economic Development for $650,000 to fund the extension of water and sewer lines to the site of the proposed 60-bed hospital.
On June 4, Pomeroy sent a letter to the agency asking that the city be allowed to apply for more than the $650,000 maximum, a cap removed by Florida Legislature last year. Pomeroy wrote that the project, including construction, engineering and administration fees, will cost closer to $900,000.
