Circuit Judge David Glant dead at 63

Eighth Judician Circuit Judge David Glant, 63, has died according to the court's website. He was first elected to the bench in 2002 and joined the court in 2003. 

Glant, who is well known for presiding in Levy County. He handled circuit civil, circuit criminal, dependency, domestic violence, family and juvenile cases, and at the time of his retirement was the administrative judge for the circuit's criminal courts. He was a former assistant state attorney. 

He retired from the bench earlier this year to focus his efforts on battling cancer and to spend time with family. 

Gov. Rick Scott appointed Gainesville attorney Monica Brasington to replace Glant on Oct. 18. 

Glant received his law degree from Nova University Law School in 1978 and went into private practice in High Springs. He graduated wth a bachelor's degree in business management from the University of Houston in 1971.  

Services will be Wednesday, Oct. 30, at 11 a.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Gainesville.
