Chiefland FUMC Celebrates Homecoming
Since the beginning of the year, Chiefland Methodists have been celebrating 150 years of presence in our community. Special activities have included having former pastors come to bring the message each month; a “history moment” each Sunday to learn about the history of the church; historical articles in the monthly newsletter; profiles of former church members; the visit of a circuit rider; testimonials of current members sharing the joys of being a Methodist; a celebration of all couples married in the church; sharing many old pictures; and learning about what was happening in Florida during the years surrounding 1861. A history book of the church’s 150 years will be given to members.
The festivities will culminate on Oct. 16, when Bishop Timothy Whitaker will bring the morning message. There will also be in attendance a Confederate Civil War officer who fought in a skirmish nearby. He will have many souvenirs of his time in the war. On that day, the narthex of the church will be turned into a representative of the Hardee home where the Methodist church began.  Following the church service, a group picture will be taken on the steps of the old sanctuary and a covered dish dinner will wind up the celebration.
We invite everyone to come at 10:00 AM on Sunday, October 16 to help us enjoy our birthday party.
