Chiefland City Commission members unanimously agreed to increase Police Chief Robert Douglas' annual salary by another 3 percent to $54,636.31, effective Dec. 11.

The chief received a 3 percent raise as of Oct. 1. Commissioner mentioned the 6 percent raise granted police officers through negotiations with the Police Benevolent Association.

Mayor M. Teal Pomeroy said there was $57,400 available in the budget for the chief's salary after the negotiations. On a motion by City Commissioner W.S. "Sammy" Cason, seconded by Commissioner Frank Buie, the commission increased the chief's salary. On a motion by Cason, seconded by Commissioner Teresa Barron, the commission unanimously approved a separate additional $500 annual clothing allowance.

Commissioners were extremely pleased with the chief's work, giving him a 3.84 out of a possible 4.

Vice Mayor J. Rollin Hudson Jr. again asked about the chief moving to Chiefland.

Douglas said he and his wife owned property in Marion County for 16 years, and six year ago he built her "dream house" for her. His loyalty is in Levy County, Douglas said, even though he lives in Marion County.
