The Board of Levy County Commissioners adopted a proclamation recognizing July 16 through July 22 as Pretrial, Probation and Parole Supervision Week.

Florida Department of Corrections Circuit Administrator Cheryl Kauffman requested the proclamation in person and recognized the work of Chiefland Correctional Probation Supervisor Thomas Darus III and his staff.

“I’m here to recognize Mr. Darus and his office,” Kauffman said. “They do a terrific job supervising cases in Levy and Gilchrist county. They only have about six officers right now and they supervise 1300 square miles. They do a tremendous job protect the community. Just last month they found three meth labs doing normal house checks. They enter dangerous situations often with no backup, and I just want to make sure they’re recognized.

Levy Board of County Commissioners vice chair Mike Joyner concurred with Kauffman’s remarks.

“I’ve had the opportunity to work with Tommy before and everything this young lady (Kauffman) has said is absolutely the truth,” Joyner said. “Plus, they do well above what they should and they are so overloaded with cases.”

Joyner offered the motion to pass the proclamation, seconded by Lilly Rooks.
