Chiefland High School grad pens youthful mystery

Daron Johnson did not intend to grow up and become a mystery writer. The Baptist missions worker and son of Paul and Carolyn Johnson, of Chiefland, did not like to read books until he was 18, even though he did enjoy writing.

But as the author of "Thornhill — Chasing the Treasure," he has found a niche in writing.

"It's the first one, I'm working on the second one right now," Johnson said in a telephone interview from Richmond, Va., where he works as a consultant for the Southern Baptist International Mission Board.

In between offering to trade his snowy weather where the daytime high was Chiefland's low on Tuesday, Johnson spoke about his efforts at writing, who influences him and why he wrote his first novel.

"I have been writing since my late teens, just for the fun of it really," Johnson said.  But the idea of writing books for young readers came after he read some of the offerings for young readers and a conversation.
