Chiefland to be evaluated for community resource center

The City of Chiefland is on the radar of organizers looking into the development of a community resource center.
Commissioners voted unanimously Monday night in favor of allowing the Partnership for Strong Families to use the old City Hall building as a base of operations until the organization can determine wether or not the city is in need of such a facility.
"We're looking for a rural site, but we've also got other communities that are considering it, too," said Carol Ruth, director of quality operations with the group.
Ruth said the organization helps organize resources in 13 counties and grew as a response to the state's privatization of such services as foster care.
"Our resource centers develop out of community response," said Katie Fields, another representative with the organization at Monday night's meeting. "Chiefland is on the radar ...." Fields said, but it hasn't been established yet that there is enough need to construct a full blown center.
