The Chiefland baseball team clung to a 2-1 lead entering the seventh against Williston on April 10, after a couple of productive hits by Payne Parnell and Elijah Smith in the fifth.

But the Red Devils took advantage of four walks in the top-half of the seventh to secure the winning margin and prevail 5-2.

The Indians outhit WMHS 8 to 6 but left runners stranded in six different innings. Parnell and Smith each had a pair of hits and senior Will Sumner added to the damage with two hits of his own, including a double.

Senior ace Kelby Osteen was sharp in six innings of work, fanning 12 batters and walking three while allowing one earned run.

Chiefland was stuck with a similar fate the night before in Fort White on April 9, as it managed just two runs despite getting hits from eight different Indians. FWHS put four across in the sixth to prevail 8-2. Luke Reidy (RBI) and Osteen each doubled for Chiefland and Kaiden Baker was a bright spot on the mound for the Indians, punching out two batters in one inning of relief.
