Bronson wants a bite of Bark ‘n’ Purr money

The Bronson Town Council is happy for the success of the two Bark ‘n’ Purr events held at Bo Diddley Park, but they would like to see some of the money raised coming to town coffers.

“I would like to see that the town get some proceeds back,” said Council member Melody LaFlam, who noted that the town provides a facility and other services for the event. “That’s not unreasonable.”

LaFlam asked the council to set a workshop on setting facility usage fees for the city’s facilities.

The daylong Bark ‘n’ Purr concert is the Levy County Humane Society’s annual fund-raiser. The Society’s goal is to obtain land for a kennel and clinic that would house animals, provide neutering and spaying services and public education.

Michelle Hagan, who coordinates the event, said the totals have not been tallied for this year’s event, held Saturday, Feb. 28, with country singer Craig Morgan as the headliner. But, she said, she expects the amount to be raised for the Society to be the same as last year: $14,000.
